It is rarely as simple as matching a colour. Bricks weather, mortar changes the way a wall reads, and the original batch is often no longer made — particularly on anything built before the 1980s. Two bricks that look identical in a photo can look completely different laid up in daylight.

The quality of the match depends almost entirely on the photos. Two minutes spent getting these right saves a lot of back and forth.
Stand close enough that four or five bricks fill the frame. We are looking at texture, colour variation within each brick, and the surface finish. Hold the camera square to the wall rather than at an angle.
Step back far enough to capture a decent area of wall. This shows how the bricks blend as a whole and lets us see the mortar colour, which affects the match as much as the brick does.
A few things that help: shoot in daylight rather than direct sun, avoid shadows falling across the wall, and photograph a clean section rather than anything stained or heavily weathered. If the wall has faded on one elevation, a sheltered area gives a truer colour.
