Rippon Buff Sandstone

Golden buff and warm sand, veined with rust, amber and soft grey in sweeping bands that draw the eye across the slab. It's among the most characterful of the Indian sandstones, with mineral streaking that varies from piece to piece and gives a laid patio real depth and movement. The riven surface holds that colour in a naturally weathered texture. Warm and generous against timber fencing, brick and mature planting, it comes into its own after rain, when the ambers and rusts intensify.

Will every slab look the same?

No, and Rippon Buff varies more than most. Slabs run from pale honey through to strongly streaked amber and grey. Lay them out dry across the whole area before fixing so the boldest pieces are spread rather than clustered.

Does it need sealing?

Recommended. A colour enhancing sealer is particularly effective here, holding the rich ambers and rusts at their wet strength rather than letting them dry back pale.

Is it slip resistant?

Yes. The riven face is split along the stone's natural bedding plane, leaving a lightly textured surface that holds grip when wet.
